The SPE 6.7L Powerstroke Oil Pan is a cast aluminum pan that was not only designed as a direct factory replacement but features a vast amount of improvements & upgrades.
During the design process, the SPE team looked at all of the downfalls with not only the 2 factory options (earlier composite pan & the later stamped steel version) but also looked at aftermarket options as well.
Additionally, it was important to make it easy to install, easy to remove, & completely drain. That is why the pan features a built-in o-ring, a machined pry provision slot for easy removal, and sumped/tapered drain to allow for complete emptying of the oil. It also has a factory drain plug thread, so you can use whatever drain plug you prefer, whether it’s the factory option, an aftermarket option, or theSPE Billet Drain Plug
Aside from the sheer installation & removal aspects, the SPE design team took it a step further and looked at what added features the customers would like to see. As a performance oriented manufacturer, it was a no-brainer to add a drain back for an atmospheric turbo. This eliminates the need to drill into your pan when doing compounds, etc. and when not in use, a ½” NPT plug is included.
We didn’t forget about our cold weather folks either, so we added a provision for an optional heater upgrade should you be in a climate where freezing temperatures can create issues with oil viscosity and decreased oil circulation and lubricity.
Lastly, the SPE oil pan increases the overall oil capacity to 16 quarts which is an additional 3 quarts over stock.
Overall this is a really good upgrade for anyone looking for easier installation & removal, complete oil drainage, someone running (or considering running) an add-on turbocharger, or someone in a cold climate* where adding the oil heater is essential to optimal performance.
*SPE considers a cold climate anywhere you may see temperatures consistently below 15°F.
