In 2011 the 6.7L Powerstroke was released, originally being coined "The Scorpion". This was the first diesel engine built in-house by Ford, still keeping the Powerstroke badging. This engine came with a lot of changes, many of which prove that Ford learned from past International engines and was out to create the best engine possible. This was no small feat as they were required to meet tougher emissions standards while meeting the customer’s exceptions of higher horsepower and torque over a wider RPM range. The 6.7L Power Stroke initially utilized a unique single sequential turbocharger (SST) known as the GT32. It featured a dual compressor and single turbine setup affixed to a common shaft. The designed allowed for a more efficient compressor map allowing the turbo to behave similarly to a smaller turbocharger thus creating almost instant boost. Unfortunately, the design suffered a myriad of failures and ultimately the Garrett GT37 was release in 2015.
